Two Successful Days in the TecZone... thank you ISCE

On Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd February Leisuretec welcomed ISCE into the TecZone for their "Design & Installation and Measurement & Certification of Hearing Loop Systems" (HLS) training event. Leading the session was Peter Roe MInstSCE, a professional in the hard of hearing market and a techy know-how on Hearing Loop Systems - as you'd expect from a presenter! Peter has now been working alongside ISCE for over 10 years, so his wealth of knowledge and approachable personality made him the perfect candidate to lead the course.

Since October 2004 it has been a legal requirement to have Hearing Loop Systems installed in a variety of different venues and applications where hearing is essential, such as churches, theatres, schools, corporate environments and concert arenas. With only 20% of systems installed correctly in the UK, people are becoming more aware of the importance of fitting Hearing Loop Systems to a high standard. We invited ISCE to the TecZone to demonstrate how to install a professional HLS, what equipment is needed, any certificates and legal requirements necessary and also what loops are suitable for different size applications.

Seeing the TecZone jam packed with eager industry professionals reinforced to us that the industry realises how essential professional hearing loop systems are. We even had our first international visitor - one of our attendees, Juha came all the way from Finland! Now that's what you call dedication. The course was carried out over 2 days by Peter Roe who, as mentioned before, has a wealth of knowledge in HLS. He's worked with ISCE for over 10 years which makes him the perfect candidate to lead the TecZone event.

Before they had the opportunity to get some hands on, Peter took the participants through the crucial theory behind Hearing Loop Systems. In one activity, the participants surveyed the TecZone using a measuring receiver. To decide whether the TecZone would meet the standards for a successful HLS they scanned for magnetic noise - luckily it passed the test! This was an excellent opportunity for everyone to understand the basics of HLS and to test out a number of different brands that would measure the same results. Amoungst the range of products used on the day was equipment supplied by Ampetronic, and funnily enough that's distributed by Leisuretec! During this activity the team came across obstacles that they are likely to face when commissioning loops for their own clients. Examples of these obstacles are when the room's made from a steel structure or reinforced concrete. After establishing what would interfere with their HLS system, everyone could then learn the different methods and practises required to overcome these obstacles.

This was one of the many activities carried out on the day. The event was aimed at people wanting to build their knowledge on hearing loop systems, so it was great to introduce them to the technology and educate them on installing a HLS. I think we can safely say that after two days of practical and theory assessments, everyone in the room can go away and install HLS systems for their customers!
