Service Sound Transforms Park House Secondary School

Posted on: 1st November 2023

Service Sound Ltd is a well-established company dedicated to installing sound systems in various venues such as schools and houses of worship at high levels of quality. They’ve built their customer base on having a good eye for detail and listening to the needs of every unique installation.

Their most recent project, Park House Secondary School based in Newbury, required a new sound system for their main hall. After a detailed conversation with the end user, Service Sound designed a new system that would meet all their specifications including, an evenly distributed sound across their hall, with easy-to-use tech and a high-quality output.

Service Sound were given three short weeks during the summer holidays to complete the job. Having built a strong relationship with Leisuretec for 17 years, Service Sound were able to get all the equipment quoted up, ordered and delivered in the same week meaning they could stick to their tight timeframe. This included delivery of playback devices, digital mixers (Allen & Heath QU), Sennheiser SpeechLine mics, Electro-Voice Monitors, Crown amplifiers, DBX SMU plus power distribution modules and speaker brackets. The following week was about specifying rack cabling and pre-loading panels, followed by the installation with the infrastructure completed a few days later.

To begin, this installation entailed a portable rack that housed the main control gear that could be easily patched at various points around the hall making it easily accessible for the client to use. This feeds a further wall-mounted permanent rack which houses the amplification and SMU meaning Park House School always have a ‘ready-to-go’ system. From here, four main passive Electro-Voice speakers were cabled in as a sound distribution system to upgrade from the school's previous equipment, which was FOH-focused. This will help audiences hear clearly from either the front or back of the hall.

The main speakers were then complimented by a couple on stage, overhead-mounted and powered monitors for foldback and to act as front fill. Next came a couple of tasty subwoofers under the stage to bring the school performances to life!

The school now have a fully comprehensive system at their disposal mixing traditional hard-wired analogue tie lines so the school can patch signals to where they need to go, with an up-to-date Bluetooth-connected media player and an app-controlled digital mixer. “…the school are now very happy with their new comprehensive system” explained James Collins, Managing Director of Service Sound, “and thanks to the relationship we have with Leisuretec they were a great source for equipment and a fast and professional turn around.”
