Top 10 Reasons to Invest in Ovation from CHAUVET Pro

Posted on: 12th August 2022

What is Ovation?

At PLASA London 2012, CHAUVET Professional introduced Ovation – their answer to LED powered theatrical lighting. The series quickly gained momentum among theatres and houses of worship looking to retrofit their existing tungsten lights; with the E-190WW winning awards for Best LED Fixture in 2013.

10 years on, and Ovation has grown into a full-line solution for theatrical lighting, supplementing and replacing older fixtures as the technology continues to ramp up. The family now includes over 25 fixtures including profiles, Fresnels, PARs and houselights and a dedicated CYC light rounding out the range.

There’s never been a better time to upgrade to Ovation so, whether you’re investing, installing or replacing, we’ve got 10 reasons why you should try Ovation. Read on or watch our video to find out our 10 reasons to upgrade to Ovation.

Number 1 – You’re spoilt for choice

With over 25 fixtures to choose from, some of which are available in a white paint finish, and with some IP rated options, you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a solution that’s right for you. There’s a wide range of LED sources available including Warm White, Cool White, Variable White and Full Colour RGB with Amber and Lime.

The flagship Reve E3 stands apart from the rest with an incredibly vibrant LED engine featuring RBG, Amber, Royal Blue and Mint, for superior colour and white balance mixing across the board. All models are also capable of 8 or 16-bit dimming so they easily integrate into older rigs.

Number 2 – Mix and Match your Fixtures

One of the key benefits of the Ovation range is the homogeny between the light sources of different models. For example, in the full-colour family (that’s 11 fixtures of fresnels, pars, profiles and more) all of these models use the same LED light engine maintaining the same colour throughout your rig.

This is super important for theatre and studio environments where cameras or décor can be very sensitive to changes in lighting conditions, and things like skin tones must remain consistent.

Number 3 – Built for Audiences

A great measure of light quality when it comes to video is with CRI. With a very high Colour Rendering Index across the range – as much as 98 in some models – Ovation is ideally suited for natural colour reproduction in camera and on the stage. The higher the number, the more likely a light source is to produce natural skin tones.

What’s more, with multiple fan speed options and silent mode built-in across the range, you can make sure your Ovations fixtures are seen and not heard.

Another essential feature for video is the ability to adjust Pulse Width Modulation. In a nutshell, the lower the PWM of your light source, the more likely you are to experience rolling shutter, or flickering issues when capturing video. You can often see this when shooting slow-motion footage.

This is caused when a light source is working at a different frequency to your camera. With Ovation, you can adjust your PWM to ultra-high frequencies, effectively eliminating the flickering.

Number 4 – High Output

In 2016, CHAUVET Pro released the award-winning E-260WW, their first LED ellipsoidal to surpass a 750-watt tungsten source’s output. This marked a significant shift in LED technology, finally offering venues a like for like alternative to existing tungsten equipment. As technology has evolved, high output LED’s have continued to become more affordable and more powerful.

Number 5 – Save your Energy

Fortunately, that high output doesn’t mean sky-high energy bills. With LED technology now catching up to tungsten light levels, your rigs can be retrofitted with like-for-like output whilst using a fraction of the power and producing far less heat; meaning happy venue, happy performers, happy audience.

Number 6 – Precision Beam Control

It’s one thing to flick a switch and shout POWER! It’s an altogether different challenge getting that power where it’s needed. Another place Ovation shines is in the optics. From barndoors and internal shutters to gobo holders and lenses, Ovation has been engineered to deliver high-quality beam control and image manipulation.

This culminates in crisp projections from ellipsoidal fixtures, and punchy and even flood and spot lighting from PARs and fresnels.

Number 7 - Remote Device Management

Combine these precision optics with the built-in RDM and you’ve got an instant rig that can be easily configured remotely. Take full control of your fixtures including virtual colour wheels, zoom functions, multiple levels of dimming control and PWM options for video optimisation.

With up to 16-bit dimming control across all Ovation fixtures, you can create extremely delicate and precise transitions between colours and intensity all the way down to black out. This can be essential for dramatic performances and even for creating a realistic tungsten roll off – or red shift – when blacking out your rig.

Number 8 – Ovation looks the part

Some might say if you’re looking at the lights during the show, it can’t be a very good show. While this is partly true, some practical lighting (and house lighting) can be difficult if not impossible to hide. With Ovation’s sleek, discrete and practical aesthetics, even if they don’t disappear into the background, they won’t look out of place, even among legacy fixtures.

With Ovation Houselights, you can even recess them into a false ceiling with an optional mounting bracket, in case you don’t want them hanging down, or want to install them into areas with low ceilings.

Number 9 – Quality for Life

Ovation fixtures don’t just look good – they’re also built to last with a huge 3-year warranty on all indoor fixtures and 5-years on their LED engines. On top of that, the houselight range are 100% convection cooled, there’s no fans to worry about, so one less thing to maintain and replace over time.

Number 10 – Accessorise

Ovation is built to be flexible with several optional accessories, such as barndoors, gobo holders, honeycomb & frost filters and gel frames. There’s also an IP rated motorised gobo rotator available for the Reve E3 and the IP versions of the E260 and E910 profile fixtures. Ovation profiles are compatible with a wide range of Ovation HD lenses and they even work with some third-party accessories.
