What Defines a Trade Distributor?

Posted on: 20th January 2020

What defines a Trade Distributor? Now that’s a difficult question. Perhaps instead ask yourself; what defines a trade user? From our experience, the line between trade and end users is becoming more and more blurred in the AV and Live Events industry which can be problematic for everyone involved.

Our perception of the word “trade” is a business who uses AV equipment to provide a service or sale to their customer; AV Hire Production Houses, AV Installers, Resellers and hybrids between the three. This has been our philosophy for 30 years and is why you’ll never find us competing with you for a sale or contract. So, how else should a trade distributor support their customers?

1. Stock, Availability and Choice

Our industry can be notoriously last minute and therefore it’s so important to keep high levels of stock readily available to react instantly to customer requirements. It’s also important to be flexible around the customer’s specification and budget which is why stocking an extensive choice of product is key. You, the customer, should be confident in your supplier’s ability to support your business as it’s essential to you upkeeping a strong service to your end client. We keep extensive levels of stock across 80+ Audio, Lighting and Video brands so we can back your ongoing projects and facilitate any last minute requirements.

2. Knowledge, Service and Support

Our industry can be very technical. Sometimes you might not have all the answers, and that’s OK. You should be able to rely on your trade distributor to have the required knowledge and expertise to answer questions and lend advice when specifying a project. We have a balanced team of front-line and technically minded people to respond quickly to your requirements but also give you the right answers when necessary.

Your supplier’s after-sales service often underpins your service to your end client so their ability to support you when something goes wrong is critical. We work closely with our manufacturers to ensure all after-sales matters are quickly dealt with, taking the weight off your shoulders. Our entire team has one common goal; to support you.

3. Value

And finally, Value. What does value mean to you? For many, it means price. Of course, it’s important to be competitive in the marketplace, but what else falls under the umbrella of value? We believe that value extends to much more than just the bottom line price and should involve your supplier’s overall proposition to your business. What else do they offer that you benefit from?

We try and add value to our service wherever we can. Efficiency in itself is a good example of this. When dealing with us you can be confident your goods will consistently arrive on time and to spec, meaning your end client isn’t left disappointed. Another great example is our trade website; an e-commerce solution where you can place your orders 24/7 with instant access to live pricing across our entire product portfolio. Our TecZone training facility also brings you professional training sessions on sound, lighting and video, giving you the opportunity to extend your knowledge and improve your service to your end client.

Summary

So, what defines a trade distributor? To us it’s simple; stock well, provide a consistently helpful and reliable service, and smile whilst you’re doing it.
